Can’t open iPhone HEIC photos on Windows? Convert them to JPG

You copy photos from an iPhone to a Windows laptop, or someone sends you pictures by email, and the files end in .HEIC. Windows shows a blank icon or asks you to buy an extension, and upload forms reject them. HEIC is Apple’s space-saving photo format. Converting to JPG makes the photos open everywhere, and you do not need to install anything.

Open the tool: HEIC to JPG

Step by step

  1. Open the HEIC to JPG tool on Convert Magician.
  2. Drop one photo or a whole batch. They are converted in your browser; your photos are not uploaded.
  3. Keep the default quality of 90, or raise it to 100 if you want maximum quality.
  4. Download the JPG files one by one, or all together as a ZIP.

Good to know

  • To stop the problem at the source, on the iPhone go to Settings › Camera › Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG.
  • When you send photos from an iPhone to a website or email, iOS often converts them automatically. The HEIC problem appears mostly when copying files by cable or cloud.
  • Need a single document instead of separate pictures? Use HEIC to PDF.

Questions

Will converting reduce the quality?

At the default quality of 90 the difference is not visible. Choose 100 for maximum quality.

What about Live Photos?

The still image of the Live Photo is converted to JPG.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The conversion runs on your device, so personal photos never leave it.
